Activist & Journalist Haggai Matar attacked while covering anti asylum seekers protest

Famous Israeli conscious objector Haggai Matar was attacked while covering a right wing demonstration calling for deportation of asylum seekers at HaTiqwah neighborhood , south of Tel Aviv. About 50 people attended the demonstration, and some of them accused Matar on alleged stone- throwing during west bank protests. Incited by far right MK Ben Ari who made a speech during the event, Matar was accused of throwing stones during west bank demonstration, was beaten by a female protester and chased by the angry crowd. The crowd chased down Haaretz reporter Ilan Lior as well and smashed window cars of asylum seekers while they were in it. All those attacked during the incident succeeded to escape the scene with the assistance of the police.

QALQILIA, (PIC)-- A Palestinian teen and two others under 18 years old were detained in Azzun village, east of Qalqilia city, in a pre-dawn raid on Wednesday by Israeli occupation forces (IOF).

Eyewitnesses said that IOF soldiers broke into locals’ homes and searched many of them after forcing the inhabitants out.

They said that Mustafa Salim, an 18-year-old secondary school student, was nabbed along with Mohammed Abu Haniya, 16, and Thaer Odwan, 17.

IOF closes Hawara checkpoint; arrests a man

Eyewitnesses are reporting the IOF closed Hawara checkpoint south of Nablus, claiming they discovered a ‘suspicious object’ and that the explosives unit has been brought to neutralize it. In the meantime, troops interrupted the movement of traffic in the area. Additionally, witnesses are also reporting a young man was arrested and taken to an unknown location.

Update: according to Ynet, the man arrested had 6 home-made bombs and a knife on his person.

The IOF demolished six tents and a barn in the Hebron area

This morning, IOF, Israeli police and the civil administration arrived to a valley just south east of Yata (Hebron area) to the Wad Al-Jahish area (near Susya) and demolished six tents belonging to Khalil Salameh al-Nawaja’a and Ibrahim Isma’il al-Nawaja’a. The area is home to over 30 people who are now displaced.

In addition, the IOF also demolished a barn belonging to Ahmad Khalil al-Jabarin in Khirbat Al-Rahwa.

"Since 2004, the whole family did not gather, not even once. Someone is always missing," recounted Alexandra Halabi, a Christian mother of four sons imprisoned by Israeli forces.

When Alexandra's eldest son Raed was detained in July 2004, she did not know it was only the beginning of a struggle that would scatter her family.

Raed, 28, was given a two-year suspended sentence and released in 2005, but toward the end of his probation he was handed to Israel by a collaborator, Alexandra says, and ordered to serve two years plus two months in jail.

UPDATED: The IOF arrested 9 people overnight throughout the West Bank

According to the IOF spokesperson, the Israeli army conducted several raids and searches throughout West Bank towns and cities and arrested nine people it considered “wanted.” All nine people were transported to interrogation within Israel’s 48 borders.

In the village of ‘Azzoun east of Qalqilya the IOF arrested three teens, while in the Hebron area, two men in their 20s were arrested and their houses searched.

In Tubas, the IOF raided several homes and conducted thorough searches within them.

In Jenin, the IOF raided three houses, and several more in the town of Yamoun, where the troops maintained presence for hours.

This morning the IOF raided the village of al-Kum west of Hebron and set up more checkpoints in the area.

Eyewitnesses just reported five military jeeps making their way to Rafidiya.

HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained 15 Palestinians overnight Tuesday during raids on the central and southern West Bank, the army said.

An Israeli military spokeswoman said 10 people were detained in the Hebron district and five from villages around Ramallah.

Four people were detained in Beit Ummar, near Hebron, she said.

Beit Ummar popular committee spokesman Muhammad Awad told Ma'an that Israeli forces raided the village in 10 military jeeps at dawn and detained two former prisoners and two teenagers.
