Salah Diab, Sheikh Jarrah human right defender is at risk of imprisonment

Salah Diab, prominent Sheikh Jarrah activist court discussion was held today in Masqubia court, Jerusalem in front of judge Dotan, president of Masqubia court.

Salah was previously trialed and convicted of assaulting settlers as an act of political persecution in attempt to crack down on Sheikh Jarrah non-violent protests. In one occasion he is charged with “pushing a settler and making him drop his phone”. Other accusations (attacking a road sign) seem ridicule non-the less. He was also accused of being a protest leaders because he served tea and coffee for the protesters.

Judge Dotan pointed out to Salah that “a reasonable person does not leave his doorstep while hearing disturbing noises but looks out the window and calls the police”. This remark should be put in context- sheikh Jarrah has a long history of suffering police brutality and a “reasonable person” would not invite the police in the neighborhood given to this record.

Salah has testified that he heard during his interrogation that the cops were seeking to frame him for something. Salah is a sole provider of a big family and is not a young man. He also has health issues. Saleh imprisonment might lead to heavy personal consequences for him and his family

After the protest ended, the police assaulted and arrested 3 of the protests’ leader. The arrestees were released the day after with no charges

Eight Bet safafa protesters are still under arrest, court discussion today -Update

Bet Safafa Facebook page reports that residents of Bet Safafa protested against the planned route of road number 4 at Dov Hoz street, east Jerusalem today. The protest was pre- coordinated earlier with the Police. Despite that, police cavalry were deployed to disperse the protest, chased the protesters and injured 3 of them. Undercover policemen disguised as protesters were spotted in the crowd attempting to provoke the protesters. 8 protesters were arrested while standing on the pavement of them 1 is a minor. The people of Bet Safafa are currently protesting in front of Moriyah police station, Talpiot. Bet Safafa FB page updated that the minor has been released.

7 Protesters from Bet Safafa are still held in custody. There will be a court discussion today regarding the extension of their arrest. The people of Bet Safafa call on solidarity protest vigil in front of court. Accurate time and location to be announced later.

Israeli court extends arrest of Silwan woman

Manal Da’na was arrested almost two weeks ago in suspicion of attempting to stab an Israeli soldier. The court extended her detention until 22 October. Da’na, 32, is a resident of Silwan and a mother of two.

Settlers, IOF raided Nablus; Clashes ensued

About 1200 settlers raided the city of Nablus last night, accompanied by IOF. Local sources reported that nine buses full of settlers and at least eight military jeeps converged on Joseph’s tomb late last night. Local youth resisting the invasion hurled stones and, according to Israeli sources, also a makeshift grenade, at the IOF and settlers. The IOF responded with tear gas and rubber bullets near the Balata refugee camp and other areas and maintained a heavy presence in the hours following the invasion.

IOF arrested two overnight in the West Bank

According to Israeli channel 10, the IOF arrested one man in Beita al-Tahta (southeast of Nablus) while the other was arrested in Shuyukh (southwest of Bethlehem). Both men were considered “wanted” by the occupation forces and they were transferred to unknown locations for interrogation.

UPDATE: IOF arrested Madhat Zidan Jaradat (20) at his village of Sa’ir east of Hebron. In addition, the IOF raided the town of Halhoul overnight.

Hamaabara ( Public housing) activists face eviction once more

Hamaabara- a grassroot group of activists for public housing and social Justice took over an abandoned building near my home in Katamonim, owned by Na’amat women’s organization part of the Histadrut (workers union) and the Jerusalem municipality. During the last 4 months, that building served as an open community center, and the group held negotiations to legally rent the building from Naamat. Last week it was announced that the negotiations failed and that Naamat refuses to rent the building to the activists, despite the fact that the building has not been used in years and that the last person to rent the building was running a private business in it. Hamaabara activists are now facing another threat of eviction in the near days but are determined not to evacuate without a struggle- and protested today in front of the mayor Nir Barkat- against the upcoming eviction and in favor of the public housing rights of the people.

The protest included erecting a mobile Succah- a temporary house that is traditionally part of the Jewish holiday of Succoth and marching in the city with it as a metaphor for the quest for a sustainable solution to the public housing crisis.

Occupation court extends Palestinian minor’s arrest

15 years old Suhaib al-A’awar from Silwan was arrested two weeks ago in the pretense of violating the terms of his house arrest. He was picked up by Israeli police on his way back from school.

Israeli court just extended his arrest by two more weeks.
